Once you have discussed a potential cancer symptom with your general practitioner (GP), they may refer you to the Health and Social Care (HSC) pathway, commonly referred to as the Two Week Wait.
The Two Week Wait pathway ensures that following an initial consultation with a GP or an abnormal screening result, patients should receive an appointment for further testing within two weeks. It is important to remain calm; being placed on this pathway does not necessarily indicate a cancer diagnosis. Rather, it is a mechanism to expedite the process of ruling out cancer or obtaining a diagnosis and initiating treatment.
Further tests may include imaging studies such as X-rays, ultrasounds, or MRIs, as well as procedures like colonoscopies or endoscopies. Blood tests and biopsies, which involve taking tissue samples for analysis, may also be conducted.
If you have been placed on the Two Week Wait pathway and have not received an appointment within the designated two-week timeframe, please contact our practice as soon as possible.
